The topic I want to explore Decision Support Systems (DSS) , the field of information systems which is focused on supporting and improving decision making process. This research project will analyse decision support in enterprise information systems (EIS) and collaborative computing ie Group Support Systems (GSS).This study presents the latest developments, also the activities which are critical to success of EIS and GSS implementations.
In general Enterprise Information Systems, EIS, could be Enterprise Resource Management, Customer Resource Management, Supply Chain Management or Manufacturing Management systems. It integrates all the end to end functions and processes of an organization, and provide a complete and up to the minute status of the all its operations and their results. This includes cash flow, revenue, expenses, inventory, orders, resources, assets, taxes, vendors and customers.This helps the organization in making effective decisions about their long term strategies, tactical operation in support of these and day to day operations.
In this paper my plan is to detail the characteristics and benefits of EIS and how they help in making decisions.Also ,I am planning to explore the evolution of Group Support Systems, GSS, their features, their types based on technology involved, their applications in education, business, engineering, software development, comparison of popular systems such as Webex and NetMeeting, and future trends.
